Choosing Between the Different Types of Winter Tires

Hendrick MINI hopes that our readers drive safely throughout winter. An important aspect of staying safe on the road during winter in Charlotte is using the right tires. The three types of winter tires available are studless, studded and performance.

Studless tires are made of a specially formulated rubber that doesn't lose its traction in cold temperatures. They also feature deep treads and thousands of tiny slits in the treads to further increase traction. Studded tires will keep you safe on the winter road too, but they are noisier and damage the pavement when it's free of ice. They have metal studs that dig into the surface below your vehicle. Performance tires have less traction in order to make it easier to drive at high speeds on highways clear of snow and ice.

Making the choice between the different types of winter tires is easy since there are only three options. We say studless tires are the best of the three because they have incredible traction while being quiet and non-destructive on clear pavement.
