You cannot control the weather, but you can control your car’s health in the harshest weather conditions. As such, during winter months, it is advisable to keep your car in tip top condition to avoid salt corrosion.

Wash your car after any snow storm. It is best to remove the road salt form the car the soonest possible. This reduces the chances of salt corrosion and other serious mechanical issues. When washing the car, don’t forget to go under. The undercarriage is breeding ground for rust and corrosion if not cleaned properly. After washing the undercarriage, spray it with a rust inhibitor that prevents corrosion and rust.

Make sure you wax your car regularly, especially during winter months. This wax coat acts a protective layer from road salt that may corrode the car. Also, don’t forget to lubricate the door hinges and locks. Finally, repair any paint scratches and chips to avoid further damage and corrosion.
